We believe in the value of rural America and want to offer our students not only a chance to have a life changing experience for themselves, but also make a positive impact on their communities that will grow into the future.

Our students attend rural high schools and participate in the arts through visual arts, and/or performing arts like music, dance and theater. Applicants apply and interview to be selected for their "Home Team", a small group of students from the same area who work together on their community projects. Joining with other Home Teams from all over Texas, they will form a community of learners who share their passion for the arts. Among their strongest traits are curiosity, tenacity, cooperation and work ethic.
Our students are the definition of invested!
1. They attend twice monthly online classes for two years that cover everything from Roman history to Renaissance art to the science of the Pompeii eruption to the best in Italian cuisine and music.
2. They attend a summer camp to connect with Farther Afield Home Teams from other communities to learn how to observe culture, create art, and brainstorm how to use their talents to make life more artful for folks at home.
3. They develop arts-based service projects to improve their communities.
4. They fundraise to cover a portion of the cost of their trip to Italy.

In 2015, muralist Doug Myerscough combined the designs of two Eureka Springs high school art club members, Kyla Boardman and Kennedy Cash, to create a one-of-a-kind design. Their combination of a waterfall and rainbow tree adorn a set of concrete stairs that connect two streets in this Ozark Mountain town. Myerscough designed the mural using a paint-by-number outline so that community members could help create this work of art that is now among the most photographed places in Arkansas for less than $2,000.
The Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden, Lampasas, Texas
The Daytripper, Chet Garner, takes a look at the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Lampasas, a project created in conjunction with the Lampasas Association For The Arts (LAFTA) and the city. Check out how they made the park, home to the natural spring that started the city, into a showcase for art that is curious, whimsical and interactive.
